We all had a hunch that this season was the beginning of the Tim Tebow era, regardless of who was the starter going into week 1 of the season. The Denver Broncos defense has been too fickle, and Kyle Orton has been less than impressive so far. On the other hand, Orton was benched in favor of Tebow in week 5 and made the most of his opportunity, passing for and rushing for a TD with very limited play time in the 4th quarter.
Like him or not, there is no debating that Tim Tebow can play some serious football. He’s averaging 2 touchdowns per game in only a handful of starts dating back to the end of last year. He scored 2 touchdowns in less than one quarter last week versus the San Diego Chargers. And if you’ve been watching the Florida Gators play football for the last 5 years, you’re also well aware of Tim Tebow’s never-ending desire to win football games and do so. I have to say that it’s pretty obvious that John Fox and John Elway have their doubts about Tebow. The interviews each men have provided discussing Tim Tebow present a level of uncertainty in what to expect from him. Even in John Fox’s announcement naming Tim Tebow the starting quarterback, he seemed less than confident in the move. Folks, the Denver Broncos have been blessed by The Chosen One and I’ll give you an idea of what to expect. Expect his drive and determination to dominate football games. Expect many Touchdowns, both passing and rushing. Expect Wins.
It’s been the talk of the off-season even throughout the NFL lockout. Who will be the Denver Broncos starting Quarterback in 2011? While the race is clearly between veteran Kyle Orton and second year 1st rounder Tim Tebow, don’t forget that Brady Quinn is in the mix.
To many it came as a big surprise to find Tebow with the Denver Broncos second team squad in practice, and Kyle Orton is the starter. At least for now. Last year, Orton played very well before getting replaced at the end of the year by Tim Tebow for 3 starts.
Going 1-2, there were flashes of brilliance at times when Tebow was their starter. Granted, Tebow’s opponents included the play-off hopeless Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders near the end of the season. Regardless, Tebow ran in 6 TDs and threw for 5 more as a rookie and there’s something to be said for the limited action he saw.
Nobody seems to question Tim Tebow’s pedigree or if he can be a great QB in the NFL one day. On the contrary, everyone seems to be criticizing Timmie’s accuracy and his ability to lead the Denver Broncos team now.
Here’s one thing that the Broncos may not have considered. Tim Tebow was unstoppable his entire career as a starting QB, helping the University of Florida Gators win two National Championships in 2006 and 2008. He’s a born winner. He’s tougher than nails. Oh by the way, he works harder than anybody in the world…
At any rate, Tebow’s skill set compares similarly to that of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. They’re both established figures at quarterback standing tall with above average speed. On one hand, Tebow is a tougher and faster runner than A-rod. On the other hand, Aaron Rodgers is much more accurate a passer which makes him the best QB in the NFL.
With the PLAYERS Championship kicking off this week at the TPC Sawgrass in northeast Florida, a tradition as the prelude to the tournament has been to team up with a local charity organization to raise funds for a good cause.
They did just that last weekend, teaming up with the Tim Tebow Foundation to host the 1st annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic. The event was prefaced the night before with a private gala for the Tournament that cost a hefty $400 per plate.
In attendance as celebrity participants alongside Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow included rock star Fred Durst (better known as “Limp Bizkit”), Adrian Peterson, Fred Taylor, Danny Wuerffel, the Pouncey twins, and University of Florida coaches Urban Meyer and Will Muschamp.
“The kids,” Tim Tebow said to reporters. “That’s what this is for.”
It was only a little over a year ago that Tim Tebow was dominating the Southeastern Conference for the Florida Gators as the starting QB for the University of Florida’s football team. Now, Tebow has NFL street cred to back up what many believe to be the best statistical career in the history of NCAA Football.
Tebow dominated as the starting quarterback for the Broncos in the final games of last year’s season, including a 4th quarter come-from-behind win against the Houston Texans in which Tim Tebow was actually miked up by ESPN. The question still remains whether Tebow or veteran QB Kyle Orton will regain possession of the starting nod.
Either way, both will figure to mix into a winning formula next season “hopefully” with negotiations still under way to avoid a lockout and strike. The team is now filled with proven talent on both offense and defense, including the NFL leader in receptions last year Brandon Lloyd. His emergence as well as measurable contributions from their star RB Knowshon Moreno should help Orton, Tebow, and the Denver Broncos to be a top offensive threat in the NFL.
